The short answer is “Only if you want people to find your site”.
The long answer…well let’s put it this way.
Let’s say you’ve just opened a new store at a new address that nobody knows. You paint it your favorite shades of blue and orange (because you hear people buy more when surrounded by blue and orange). You neatly stack the shelves, and make sure you have sufficient stock on hand (because you don’t want to get caught without product to sell). You get a new logo, a new sign, new business cards, and even a new cash register. Excited, you open your doors on the first day at your new address…which nobody knows. You wait anxiously as you see people drive, walk, and ride by – but nobody comes in. You’ve heard that old adage “Location. Location. Location.” and in rings through your mind as you wonder if you made the right move. Nobody comes in. You start to wonder if opening a Pet Supplies Store in the middle of an ASPCA Activist neighborhood was a good idea.
That’s what it feels like to open a website with no SEO. You have no control over your destiny, because you’ve taken no control of your SEARCH ENGINE RANKING. Have you EVER gone to the last page of a Google search for “pet supplies”?
